REGION ASIA

Interact has been working in Asia since 1890. Together with our local partner organisations, we want to see transformed societies among and by the most vulnerable people. Our three focal areas are Anti Human Trafficking, Child Protective Services and Sustainable Livelihood. Interact works primarily with prevention in these areas, such as advocacy in order to change unjust structures, but also by direct support to right holders and other actors in the civil society. Interact has programmes and projects in 10 countries together with 20 implementing partners.

Regional context

60 percent of the world’s population live in Asia. It is a diverse region with a strong economic development but also with rapidly growing gaps between rich and poor. The region has the highest number of trafficked people in the world including labour, sex and organ trafficking. Many people migrate within as well as across borders because of unpredictable draught, flooding and/or land erosion which are all consequences of climate changes. Lack of income, violation of rights, shrinking space for democracy and trafficking are issues need to be addressed while working in Asia.

What we do about it

Interact works with a holistic and a right based approach in order to empower the most vulnerable and discriminated people. We want to address the root cause of unjust social structures and advocate for rights within communities.

In the area of Anti Human trafficking, we work preventively by awareness raising, advocacy, income-generating activities, skill development and education.

In the area of Child Protective Services, we focus mainly on support and training of duty bearers in order to create a safe environment for the children.

In the area of Sustainable Livelihood, we work for community development and mobilisation in order to end poverty and create resilience towards natural disasters.
